Curry . . . curry . . . where? McGill's, that's where!

Mango Mousse Tart
If you haven't been to McGill's yet to try the Indian cuisine, I have just one question for you.  Why not?  Worried it may be too spicy?  Never fear, both the aloo gobi and chicken korma are mildly spiced.  But what if I want to try it just a bit hotter, I hear you ask.  We've got you covered there too.  Just ask your server to get the kitchen team to kick it up a notch.  Make sure you save room for dessert though.  That mango mousse tart is simply beautiful! 

Unfortunately, the weather doesn't sound too cheerful for the weekend; however, we do have shelter from the elements on the patio if you happen to be like me and enjoy spending every single minute you can outside.  Sit under the awnings and stay dry.

McGill's is fully licensed with Garrison beer on tap, bottled beer and an excellent selection of wines.  Or try a cocktail.  I can also confidently say that the sangria is awesome!  Finish off your meal with an excellent specialty coffee.

Aloo Tikki
Fried potato cakes with garam masala.  Served with a sweet chili sauce

Mulligatawny Soup
Exotic spices with tamarind, lemon juice, coconut milk, red lentils, vegetables and fresh cilantro

Main Course:

Chicken Korma
A full-flavoured and mildly-spiced curry with tender chicken morsels, roasted cauliflower and pilau rice

Beef Madras
Diced beef shoulder simmered in our own hot madras curry.  Served with pilau rice and a cool raita sauce

Aloo Gobi
A mildly-spiced vegetarian dish.  Slow-roasted cauliflower and sweet potatoes simmered in a mild curry sauce

Dessert:

Mango Mousse Tart
Heavy cream folded into a sweet mango pureé and served in a flaky tart shell.  Served with fresh fruit and crème anglaise

Gulab Jamun 
Small spongy cake balls simmered and soaked in a rich rose water and cardamom-infused syrup.  Served warm

No need to dream of the Med any longer . . . it's here!

Aren't these temperatures wonderful!  As the heading suggests, we have no need to dream of the warm climates as we have our very own here.  And we can bring you cuisine to make you feel that you are indeed somewhere exotic this week.  That's right, we're offering you the Mediterranean menu and, as mentioned before, This is such a healthy diet to follow and is indeed make-you-feel-good food.  I'm thinking the Chilean sea bass is where it is at this week!  Starting off with the dolmades and finishing with pistachio ice cream . . . that's me all sorted.  What are you having?

Chicken Souvlaki

Short-grain rice and fresh herbs wrapped in tender grape leaves and simmered gently in a flavourful chicken broth.  Served with tzatziki

Zucchini Keftedes 
Pan-fried zucchini and feta cheese fritters.  Topped with Mediterranean yogurt and fresh dill

Main Course:

Spanakopita
Spinach, onions and feta cheese wrapped in flaky phyllo pastry.  Served with rosemary aioli and a salad of baby greens

Mediterranean Sea Bass
Fresh Chilean boneless sea bass rubbed with olive oil and fresh herbs, pan-seared.  Served with Chef's select vegetables and saffron and toasted almond couscous

Chicken Souvlaki
Chicken marinated in olive oil, lemon juice and oregano then skewered and grilled on our char broiler.  Served with tzatziki, pita bread and wilted spinach with olives

White Chocolate Bavarian Mousse

Dessert:

Pistachio Ice Cream
Rich pistachio crème glace.  Served with a crisp sesame cookie

White Chocolate Bavarian Mousse
Creamy white chocolate infused with hazelnut liqueur and folded whipped cream.  Served with a hazelnut tuile 

Baklava
Baked layers of butter-drenched phyllo pastry with spiced and chopped nuts; then, when still warm, soaked in a honey-lemon syrup

Hola! Join me in a Mexican fiesta!

Deep Fried Ice Cream
Time to don those sombreros once again and welcome Mexican week.  With three appetizers, three mains and three desserts, deciding what to have will be the most difficult part of your evening.  Just make sure you save room for dessert.  Doesn't the deep fried ice cream look amazing!  If you haven't tried this yet, you really have to.  But not to be left behind are the Mexican Churros.  I guess it depends on exactly how much room you have left for dessert which one you have.

The weather is perfect for enjoying your dinner on the patio with a few drinks.  It's the best way to pass a summer's evening with family or friends.  Remember McGill's has an excellent wine list, Garrison beer on tap as well as domestic and imported beers.  Make sure you ask your server about our cocktails.  And finish off your meal with a specialty coffee.

Jalapeno peppers split and stuffed with cheese and salsa verde, sprinkled in bacon and grilled.  Served with sour cream

Quad-coloured corn tortilla chips.  Served with house-made salsa cruda and fresh guacamole
 
Shrimp and Scallop Posole
Medallions of scallops and shrimp simmered in a light broth.  Finished with fresh cilantro
 
Main Course

McGill's Beef Burritos
Local ground beef and our house-made molasses slow-cooked baked beans, sautéed with fresh peppers and authentic Mexican spices, wrapped up in a flour tortilla.  Served with sour cream and Mexican corn salad

Vegetarian Tostadas
Grilled flour tortilla with black beans, roasted tomatillo sauce, fresh guacamole, shredded lettuce and Monterey Jack cheese.  Served with a side of toasted garlic rice with lime and chillies

Chicken Mole
Tender chicken breast grilled and finished in a traditional Mexican mole sauce.  Served with toasted garlic rice with lime and chillies, and Chef's select seasonal vegetables
 
Dessert

Chocolate-Ancho Crème Brûlée
Rich dark Cacao Barry chocolate married with spicy ancho pepper, blended into a smooth creamy custard, sprinkled with sugar and caramelized.  The heat of the ancho and the sweetness of the chocolate make this dessert perfect!

Mexican Churros
Light and fluffy Spanish dough fried golden and tossed in cinnamon and sugar.  Served with dark chocolate dipping ganache

Mexican Fried Ice Cream
Slow-churned vanilla ice cream rolled in cinnamon sugar and corn flakes, flash-fried golden.  Served with caramel sauce and chocolate drizzle in a crispy tortilla

New month, Italian week and something new!


Chicken Scaloppini

Ok, July, you got off to a shaky start but it would appear you are making up for it for the next little while at least.  Long may the sun and heat continue, I say!  And because it is a new month, you all know by now that that heralds the return of our Italian menu this week.  Simply delicious comfort food!  And with the temperatures set to remain high for the foreseeable future, you could enjoy your meal on our patio well into the evening.  What a perfect way to pass a relaxing evening with friends and family!  Toss in a pitcher of sangria, a few beers or cocktails, a bottle of wine, and your evening is complete.  McGill's has definitely got you covered on all counts.

Grilled olive oil-brushed Italian bread with fresh tomato mixed with garlic, basil and olive oil.  Topped with Parmigianino-Reggiano cheese

Calamari alla menta 
Fresh calamari marinated with egg yolks and cream, dredged in bread crumbs and lightly fried.  Topped with fresh lemon and mint

Feature:
 
Gnocchi di Formaggio
Gorgonzola, Romano and Swiss cheese blended together for a very rich cheese sauce, tossed with fresh gnocchi.  Topped with grated Parmesan cheese

Main Course:

Spaghettini Bolognaise
Fresh-made egg pasta tossed in a tomato-based meat sauce.  Topped with Parmigianino-Reggiano cheese

Chicken Scaloppini 
Lightly breaded, butterflied chicken breast on top of a bed of fresh-made pasta tossed in sweet butter, roasted red peppers and red onion.  Finished with a hint of cream and a dollop of butter

Cappellacci con la zucca
House-made ravioli filled with roasted butternut squash and ricotta cheese.  Finished in sweet butter with fresh sage and toasted pine nuts
 
Dessert:

Tiramisu
Layers of house-made lady fingers drizzled in Amaretto liquor between rich Zabaglione marsala cream.  Topped with whipped cream and sprinkled in cocoa powder

Raspberry Panna Cotta
Mildly rich and creamy custard.  Served with fresh raspberries and a dark chocolate hazelnut sauce
