Curry in the air!

Mango Mousse Tart
Well, here we are . . . the last week in June.  Which can only mean one thing.  Yes, you guessed it--Indian week at McGill's!  Glad you're all with me on this one.  Whether you prefer mildly spiced or hot, we have the dish for you.  If you're somewhere in the middle, talk to your server.  The kitchen can adjust the heat of the dish to suit you.  Save room for one of our desserts though.  And remember, McGill's is fully licensed and offers an excellent selection of wines, Garrison beer on tap, cocktails and specialty coffees.

Appetizer:

Aloo Tikki
Fried potato cakes with garam masala.  Served with a sweet chili sauce

Fried Prawns
Tiger shrimp marinated in Indian spices and tamarind then battered and fried.  Served on top of baby greens with Makhni sauce 

Main Course:

Murgh Makhani (Chicken Tikka in creamed fresh tomatoes)
Boneless, skinless chicken thighs marinated overnight then roasted, tossed in a rich creamy tomato sauce finished with a swirl of butter.  Served with pilau rice

Beef Madras
Diced beef shoulder simmered in our own hot madras curry.  Served with pilau rice and a cool raita sauce
 
Aloo Gobi
A mildly-spiced vegetarian dish.  Slow-roasted cauliflower and potatoes simmered in a mild curry sauce.  Served with pilau rice

Dessert:

Mango Mousse Tart
Heavy cream folded into a sweet mango pureé and served in a flaky tart shell.  Served with fresh fruit and crème anglaise

Gulab Jamum 
Small spongy cake balls simmered and soaked in a rich rose water and cardamom-infused syrup.  Served warm

Come and enjoy a taste of the Med on our patio!

The weather is finally perfect and you can enjoy a meal outside into the evening.  Which makes McGill's the perfect destination this week or, in fact, all summer.  On our patio, you can soak up the evening sun or relax in the shade provided by the awnings.  And what better way to welcome summer this week than by offering our Mediterranean menu.  Known as one of the healthiest diets to follow, our cuisine will not disappoint you in this regard. 

Chicken Souvlaki

With an excellent wine list, bottled beer and Garrison's beer on tap, McGill's is set to make your dining experience a memorable and enjoyable one.  Ask one of our waitstaff for a cocktail.  Or a specialty coffee, which ends a fantastic meal quite nicely.

Dolmades
Short-grain rice and fresh herbs wrapped in tender grape leaves and simmered gently in a flavourful chicken broth.  Served with tzatziki

Zucchini Keftedes 
Pan-fried zucchini and feta cheese fritters.  Topped with Mediterranean yogurt and fresh dill

Main Course:

Spanakopita
Spinach, onions and feta cheese wrapped in flaky phyllo pastry.  Served with rosemary aioli and a salad of baby greens

Citrus-Poached Halibut
Fresh Atlantic halibut slow-poached.  Served with a citrus melody over saffron and toasted almond couscous

Chicken Souvlaki
Chicken marinated in olive oil, lemon juice and oregano then skewered and grilled on our char broiler.  Served with tzatziki, pita bread and wilted spinach with olives

White Chocolate Bavarian Mousse
Dessert:

Pistachio Ice Cream
Rich pistachio crème glace.  Served with a crisp sesame cookie

White Chocolate Bavarian Mousse
Creamy white chocolate infused with hazelnut liqueur and folded whipped cream.  Served with a hazelnut tuile 

Baklava
Baked layers of butter-drenched phyllo pastry with spiced and chopped nuts; then, when still warm, soaked in a honey-lemon syrup

Grab your sombreros and head to McGill's!

The Mexican theme has become just as popular as the Italian one here at McGill's, so I hope we will see you this week.  This is the most difficult menu for me to pick from as I love all the appetizers, mains and desserts.  Perhaps the weather will cheer up and you could enjoy your meal on the patio. 

Beef Tacos
Our beef tacos are sure to hit the spot for even the hungriest person.  They taste even better than they look!  I'm lucky if I can get through one of them.  And if I tried to eat both of them, I'd never have room for dessert.  Speaking of dessert, you need to try the fried ice cream at least once.  I bet you won't stop at once though.  Definitely a crowd-pleaser and just plain fun!  If I actually have room for dessert, I enjoy the crème brûlée.  It has just the right amount of heat and sweetness to end the meal perfectly.

Stuffed Grilled Jalapenos
Jalapeno peppers split and stuffed with cheese and salsa verde, sprinkled in bacon and grilled.  Served with sour cream

Salsa & Guac
Quad-coloured corn tortilla chips.  Served with house-made salsa cruda and fresh guacamole

Shrimp and Scallop Posole
Medallions of scallops and shrimp simmered in a light broth.  Finished with fresh cilantro
 
Main Course

Beef Tacos
Two soft tortillas grilled and filled with seasoned slow-braised beef, topped with salsa cruda, aged cheddar cheese and shredded lettuce.  Served with sour cream

Vegetarian Tostadas
Grilled flour tortilla with black beans, roasted tomatillo sauce, fresh guacamole, shredded lettuce and Monterey Jack cheese.  Served with a side of toasted garlic rice with lime and chillies

Chicken Quesadillas
Tender shredded chicken, salsa cruda and spices all sautéed together, topped with Monterey Jack cheese and sautéed peppers and onions, baked between flour tortillas.  Served with sour cream, guacamole and Mexican corn salad

Chocolate-Ancho Crème Brûlée
Dessert

Mexican Churros
Rich dark Cacao Barry chocolate married with spicy ancho pepper, blended into a smooth creamy custard, sprinkled with sugar and caramelized.  The heat of the ancho and the sweetness of the chocolate make this dessert perfect!

Mexican Churros
Light and fluffy Spanish dough fried golden and tossed in cinnamon and sugar.  Served with dark chocolate dipping ganache

Mexican Fried Ice Cream
Slow-churned vanilla ice cream rolled in cinnamon sugar and corn flakes, flash-fried golden.  Served with caramel sauce and chocolate drizzle in a crispy tortilla

First of June . . . here comes the Italian menu!

Interesting definition of Italian cuisine above.  Notice how it is traditionally enjoyed . . . with a group of family and friends.  And the best bit . . . with wine and lots of laughter.  You will note I omitted the word "little" in front of wine.  I don't want to restrict you.  How about this week you gather your family and friends, stop by McGill's and enjoy a memorable evening of Italian food, excellent wine and fantastic company!  Sounds perfect to me! 
Tiramisu

As always, the gnocchi is available either as an appetizer or a main and is always a huge success.  And wouldn't the bruschetta be wonderful enjoyed on our patio!  Then wander inside to enjoy your main course (or stay on the patio, weather permitting).  Save room for dessert though!  The tiramisu is a great way to end your meal.  Maybe have it with a specialty coffee.

Grilled olive oil-brushed Italian bread with fresh tomato mixed with garlic, basil and olive oil.  Topped with Parmigianino-Reggiano cheese

Calamari alla menta 
Fresh calamari marinated with egg yolks and cream, dredged in bread crumbs and lightly fried.  Topped with fresh lemon and mint
 
Italian Wedding Soup
Small Italian meatballs simmered in a rich chicken broth with fresh spinach and orzo pasta.  Finished with an egg liaison and topped with fresh Parmesan cheese
 
**Feature**

Four-Cheese Gnocchi
Gorgonzola, Romano and Swiss cheese blended together in a very rich cheese sauce, tossed with fresh gnocchi.  Topped with grated Parmesan cheese (available as an appetizer or a main)

Main Course:
 
Marsala Pappardelle
Fresh house-made pasta with sautéed mushrooms.  Finished in a rich Marsala wine cream sauce

Straw & Hay 
Egg and spinach tonnarelli with our chipotle honey-glazed ham, green peas and select mushrooms in a buttered cream.  Topped with grated Grana Padano Parmesan cheese (also offered as a vegetarian option)

Turkey Cannelloni 
Lean ground turkey meat sauteed with fresh sage, blended with ricotta cheese, roasted red peppers and spinach, rolled in house-made pasta and baked in our own pomodoro sauce.  Topped with shredded mozzarella
 
Dessert:
 
Tiramisu
Layers of house-made lady fingers drizzled in Amaretto liquor between rich zabaglione Marsala cream.  Topped with whipped cream and sprinkled in cocoa powder

Lemon Raspberry Crostata
A sweet dough flan with a layer of almond frangipane.  Topped with lemon custard and fresh raspberries
